East Ridge of Beinn a Chaorainn

Image
A mega end to the week and indeed our winter season as the snow returned to the mountains. We headed up the East Ridge of Beinn a Chaorainn and enjoyed lots of fresh snow, the usual burly summit winds and some beautiful views in descent. A massive thanks to Garry, Steve, Fabio and Zeb for a great week in a wide range of conditions. Ace 😀👍

Wet!

Image
Today was wet, windy and warm. It’s been a while since we’ve had one of these - in fact I hadn’t worn my waterproofs since early February so we’ve done pretty well! We stayed low with some of the team going dry tooling and Steve and I looking at leading roped scrambles. Getting colder overnight so tomorrow should be good.

Aonach Mor

Image
Steve, Garry and I headed to Aonach Mor today to enjoy some more great spring snow in the sunshine. Progressing Steve on from the last couple of days we got him on the sharp end of the rope (with a ghost rope for the steepness at the top) whilst bringing Garry upto speed as a second and giving him his first winter route. Another mega day in the mountains 😀👍

Number Three Gully

Image
Steve and I headed up Ben Nevis today, climbing Number Three Gully. The snow was lovely but again care had to be taken with the rock either side. Some stunning light on ascent and descent with Scotland looking very spring like.

Aladdins Couloir

I’ve been out with Steve today in the Cairngorms. The weekends thaw has made an impact but we found good sport in Aladdins Couloir. The snow was great but care was required with the rock either side - you definitely wouldn’t want to be underneath anyone else. It was quiet, sunny and beautiful.

Rope stuff in Glencoe

Tracy, Duncan and I finished our week with a technical ropework day, looking at all things ropey. It was beautifully warm in the sunshine and a lovely end to a great week. Thanks very much both and to Andy and Sophie for joining us.

The Runnel

Another stunning day and some more lovely climbing, this time over East in the Cairngorms on The Runnel. We are getting spoilt!

Number Four Gully

I’ve been out with Tracy and Duncan today and we’ve had a pretty special day on Ben Nevis. We’ve shared some lovely days out over the years and they’ve joined me this week to prep for a summer trip to the Alps. We refreshed axe and crampon skills on the firm snow this morning and then headed up Number Four Gully. Duncan lead a couple of pitches at the top and then we popped out into the sunshine, all in awe of the views in all directions. Just magical. How took Sophie and Andy over to the Cairngorms for another magical day of spring mountaineering. We’re lucky bunnies this week.
