Cneifion Arete

Image
I’m out with Nick and Stuart for the next couple of days on our advanced scrambling course. The aim is to progress onto grade 2 and 3 scrambles, getting mileage on the grade and getting used to how we use the rope to manage the consequences of a slip. We started off in Cwm Idwal which is always a good bet on a Westerly wind. We climbed Idwal Buttress to start with, moving across to Idwal Staircase to progress the grade onto 2+. That lead us nicely into Cwm Cneifion and onto the Arete to complete the grade trilogy with a grade 3. A great day, thanks very much both.

North Ridge of Tryfan

Image
Tryfan started out a little damp this morning as we headed up the North Ridge for the second day of our intro to scrambling course. There was a good breeze and the rock soon dried as the rain stopped to give some great scrambling. A lovely couple of days and a big thank you to Jenny, Ian and Athif for joining us.

Seniors Scrambling

I’m kicking off this week with an intro to scrambling course here in North Wales. I’ve been joined by Jenny, Lee and Athif and today we’ve been ducking below some strong summit winds - we climbed Seniors Gully and about two thirds of Seniors Ridge before descending Cwm Cneifion and Oblique Gully. A great day looking at route choice and movement skills.

Sailing Point Lynas

I had a lovely day on Friday exploring some more of the Anglesey coastline in my Wanderer. I launched at about 9:00am from Traeth Bychan. High water had been at about 6:30 and I just caught water on the end of the slipway.  Earlier in the year I’d sailed from home in Llanfairfechan Sailing Club to Traeth Bychan and so the plan was to continue where I left off but this time with an out and back journey to make logistics easier. I used the ebbing tide and a nice breeze to sail under full sail round Point Lynas in an ever increasing swell. This headland is well known for its dolphin population but alas I didn’t get to see any on this occasion.  I was glad to pull into Porth Eilian where I dropped anchor and had a breather in the flat calm of the bay. With an hour left before the tide turned I then meandered slowly towards Porth Amlch before turning with the tide and heading back.  My return was much calmer and I had to motor the last hour, saying hello to the seals in ...

Sunny seaside climbing

Another beautiful sunny day of cragging at the seaside today with Gavin and Mark. Warm rock, great climbs, blue skies - what’s not to like. Thanks boys 😀

Rhoscolyn

I’ve had a beautiful day out at Rhoscolyn today with Mark and Gavin, getting them on the sharp end of the rope on the third day of their lead climbing course. They climbed a good range of routes as we soaked up the sun and even spotted dolphins. Ace!

ML Prep

I’ve been out with Mark today helping him prep for his Mountain Leader Assessment. It’s been a beautiful day of clouds and sunshine. John was also out with Gavin and Mark on our 5 day learn to lead climbing course. Mega.
