Round of Coire Lagan

Image
A dry day today and Jordan, Matt and I set off with an initial plan of climbing Sgurr Dearg's Inaccessible Pinnacle and thought that we'd see where we were after that. Having climbed the pinnacle we carried on to the summit of Sgurr MhicCoinnich and with time still left we carried on across Collie's Ledge, over Sgurr Thearlaich and down the Great Stone Chute for the second time in two days.

Pinnacle Ridge

Dry rock, light winds, perfect temperatures and fleeting views. A cracking day for Pinnacle Ridge on Sgurr Nan Gillean for me with Tom and Laura. Tarquin and David did the same with the others on the round of Coire Lagan. Ace!

The Spur

Fliss and I headed up The Spur on Sgurr and Fheadain today which kept us out if the wind. A prompt start also meant we avoided the rain until our descent - perfect. Beautiful scrambling in a stunning setting.

Scrambling on the Misty Isle

We’ve kicked off our second Skye Scrambling week today. Huw teamed up with Matt and Jordan, David was with Cath and Ronnie, Tarquin with David and I was with Fliss. It was a damp and cloudy day but light winds meant the weather didn’t stop play. Fliss and I climbed Sgurr a Mhadaidh, Sgurr a Ghreadaidh and Banachdich - an excellent first day out given damp rock.

Rubha Hunish

Image
A wee jolly boys outing in between scrambling courses on Skye and David, Huw and I have been to the far north of the island and the sea cliffs of Rubha Hunish. The sum total of the day's climbing was little more than thirty metres but that only tells a fraction of the day's story. Following a walk out to the headland through quite stunning coastal scenery the best fun of the day was in reaching Rubha Hunish's South Stack. Once established, and dry, on the stack, David had the job of leading us up the route of  Willie Hunish  on rock of slightly dubious quality. Having gained the sharp top, renewed the abseil tat, and taken the obligatory photographs the whole aquatic process was reversed in regaining the mainland. Wonderful fun!

More ace scrambling

It’s been dry and we’ve had light winds again today, so the sort of day that is good for most options in the Cuillin. Huw took Kallie and Chris on the Clach Glas Blaven Traverse, David took Tom and Laura from Mhadiadh to An Casteill whilst Sandy and I took Rachel, Claire, Steve and Ray up the North West Ridge of Mhadaidh, over Ghreadiadg and Thormaid and onto Banachdich. Ace scrambling with lovely company - what a great week! Thanks very much all.

Spar Cave

Image
We made the most of a wet and windy day today by going to play in Spar Cave near Elgol. A big abseil dropped us into the cave entrance and lovely scrambling on flowstone saw us to the back of the cave. A fun little adventure followed by tea and cake 😀
