Sron na Larig

Image
Sron na Larig in Glencoe today for Tom, Laura and I. Apparently there’s some wind coming in tomorrow and there was a definite shift in the weather today. Plenty of fresh snow being put down, stinging cheeks on the summit of Sgreamhach and all a bit more what you’d expect from Scottish Winter. Ace 😀  https://www.expeditionguide.com/scottish-winter-mountaineering-and-climbing-course/

Number Three Gully

A fantastic day on Ben Nevis today with Tom and Laura. It was lovely to see the fresh snow on the North Face as we walked in and we knew that the old snow that had survived the thaw would be well frozen. Icey boulders in the river by the CIC hut are always a good sign! As we gained height we pulled up above the clouds, enjoying crisp neve and some nice ice in Number Three Gully. The top out was incredible - we sat in the sun above a sea of clouds. Amazing - thanks very much both!  https://www.expeditionguide.com/scottish-winter-mountaineering-and-climbing-course/

Curved Ridge

We definitely had a route of two halves today as Laura, Tom and I climbed Curved Ridge on Buachaille Etive Mor. The lower half of the route was summer and as we gained height it was a very welcome return to winter. It’s only a dusting but it’s the start of the next round 😀 More wonderful mountaineering, light and cloud. Thanks again both.  https://www.expeditionguide.com/scottish-winter-mountaineering-and-climbing-course/

East Ridge

Image
We are being spoilt for weather on this Scottish trip. Last weeks high pressure continues this week, giving light winds and that wonderful combination of light and cloud that is so special at this time of year. There’s even some snow in the forecast for tomorrow and it was good to have lower temperatures today. I’ve been out with Tom and Laura whilst Huw is with Nick and Jon. We all headed East and climbed the East Ridge of Beinn a Chaorainn which gives a great days mountaineering. The plan worked and we stayed dry. Ace!  https://www.expeditionguide.com/scottish-winter-mountaineering-and-climbing-course/

Curved Ridge

Another lovely day in Scotland and Rach, Angus and I headed up Curved Ridge on Buachaille Etive Mor. The light was wonderful with swirling clouds and Brocken Spectres and the rock dry and grippy. It even felt cold on the summit 😀

Ledge Route, Ben Nevis

Image
It’s been a stunning day in the Highlands and Rach, Angus and I have been up Ledge Route on Ben Nevis. This is a fantastic mountaineering ridge and it felt like an Alpine day in the sunshine and warm temperatures - most bizarre for January in Scotland. I’ve never known anything like it! It’s looking like it’s going to get cold again this weekend so back to winter 🤞

East Ridge of Beinn a Chaorainn

Rachel, Angus and I headed up the East Ridge of Beinn a Chaorainn today for the first day of our mountaineering course. It was a beautiful day and it’s always ace to be out with Rach. We were all blown away by how much the snow stripped back yesterday - it felt like a summers day today. Nonetheless the route gave us an excellent day and it’s not a hardship to enjoy some Scottish mountaineering in good weather 😀
