Clogwyn y Person Arete
I’m a middle aged man and I still get to go a play in the snow with my friends. What a lucky boy. π Bryn Williams Mountaineering and I climbed the Clogwyn y Person ArΓͺte. In summer conditions this is a Grade 3 scramble but with snow and ice it gets a winter climbing grade of III, 4. It was a bit of a wade to get to the base of the route through snow that was knee deep in places and being redeposited by the wind. Once on the route the climbing was excellent - the rock was nicely rimed and it doesn’t rely on frozen turf. Lots of giggles and smiles saw us top out on Crib Y Ddysgyl. This was in lovely condition with plentiful cover and some nice firm snow between the drifts. We met two young lads with wide eyes having a great adventure puttting tracks in along the ridge - they were the only signs of life we saw all day. No signs of any ice yet where we were. A real treat to be climbing from home.
