Sailing Point Lynas
I had a lovely day on Friday exploring some more of the Anglesey coastline in my Wanderer. I launched at about 9:00am from Traeth Bychan. High water had been at about 6:30 and I just caught water on the end of the slipway.
Earlier in the year I’d sailed from home in Llanfairfechan Sailing Club to Traeth Bychan and so the plan was to continue where I left off but this time with an out and back journey to make logistics easier. I used the ebbing tide and a nice breeze to sail under full sail round Point Lynas in an ever increasing swell. This headland is well known for its dolphin population but alas I didn’t get to see any on this occasion.
I was glad to pull into Porth Eilian where I dropped anchor and had a breather in the flat calm of the bay. With an hour left before the tide turned I then meandered slowly towards Porth Amlch before turning with the tide and heading back.
My return was much calmer and I had to motor the last hour, saying hello to the seals in Dulas Bay on my way.
I landed on the beach and was pleased to find the sand firm enough to recover the boat on the trolley without having to wait for the water to reach the slipway. I was slightly jealous of those with four wheel drives who could bring trailers straight down to the waters edge but soon felt better when a couple of the jet skiers helped me haul boat and trolley back to my car. A super hot day but lovely to be out exploring some new to me coastline - it took until Saturday morning for the world to stop going up and down though 😀
