Ogwen Ski Touring

Rum and I headed into the Ogwen Valley today for some more Welsh ski action. We had some rain last night and so the snow line has lifted a bit but I was still able to skin from the car. We headed up the reservoir road and across to Pen Yr Helgi Du. The wind was super strong and it was a struggle to stat upright at times. As we gained height the snow changed from mushy to icey and there had been a partial refreeze overnight. The summit ridge was scoured and some cornices had been formed earlier in the week. I linked snow patches to the top whilst Rum stuck to the grass. A clattery ski down saw me back at the road - not conditions to write home about but it’s still skiing in Eryri! There’s more snow forecast tomorrow night so it could be all change for the weekend - I’ll be in Scotland then where it seems to be a similar story of a cracking start to winter.
