Quality Mountain Day
We spent the second day of our Mountain Leader training course enjoying a quality mountain day - as per the definition set out by Mountain Training. We kicked off looking at surface pressure charts to produce a mountain weather forecast and appropriate plan for the day - the wind speed being the main consideration with a strong SW. We chose to climb the NE Ridge of Y Garn with each person taking turns to lead the group so that we could look at group management, pace and leadership styles. Once on the summit we were in thick cloud and the expected winds so the team worked in pairs, making the most of the excellent conditions for navigation and making their way across to Mynydd Perfedd and lunch overlooking Marchlyn Mawr as the clouds broke. The rain soon returned and we moved into "off the path" navigation as we descended to the East of Foel Goch, stopping along the way to look at emergency procedures and various methods of moving an immobilised casualty. Another great day with a super keen team, it is always inspiring working on these courses - thanks very much all.
